I cannot begin to tell you how many times I hear the word “stressed” in a day. When times get tough, it’s all about STRESSING, STRESSED OUT, STRESS….. even my inbox is flooded daily with courses I can attend if I am stressed in business, in my personal life or even with my body.
That got me thinking, what if we relooked at stress and reframed it in a positive light. What if you thought of the word STRESS and it made you feel good.
Let’s look at the definition of stress, as a noun, “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.” vs. a verb “give particular emphasis or importance to (a point, statement, or idea) made in speech or writing.” Which works best for you?
I like to think if you look at STRESS, as a way of emphasizing an unleashed power of your own inner strength, it would force us to step up when things seem to be getting tough or hard or get us worked up.
I found a beautiful acronym for this word
S imply
T hink
R ealistically
E xpressing
S ilent
S trength
Now if you had to do this when you get “Stressed out” how would your context, the playing field or the situation change? My advice is, as the pressure increases why not step out of the negative mindset; when things are not going the way you hoped, look inside for your silent strength. The answers to many of our stressful situation lay buried under all our worry, pressure, tension, all bought on by ourselves. It’s not your team, your family, your boss, your colleague, the government or anyone else’s fault you are stressed, it’s yours.
Once you reframe your stress you will start seeing your life is not so HECTIC (another word I could delve into, but will save that for another day).
So you don’t need courses, workshops, seminars or medication, the answers lie within. Silence your mind and listen to that silent inner strength.
