“What’s this mention of turkey?” you ask. “Especially when we’ve only just recovered from Christmas lunch.”
Well, a “turkey” is a tenpin bowling term for getting three strikes in a row. And a strike is when all ten pins are knocked down with one ball. You get ten points for these pins, plus the points of the next two balls thrown.
Does that not sound like something worth aiming for?
Tenpin bowling is all about hitting the target. And so it is in business. However, tenpin bowling seems like a lot more fun. So I pinched some tips on how to “Bowl like a pro with our top tips” from https://www.tenpin.co.uk/, and have made them applicable to the game of business.

Be picky
Choose your ball carefully - if it's too light it'll be hard to control, and a heavy ball will lack the momentum it needs to knock the pins down! Make sure your grip is comfortable and you can release the ball easily.
SS: Doesn’t this sound exactly like a recipe for setting a perfect target? Challenging enough, though not too easy. And essential that the target is a good fit with your business ethos.
Slide into it
Sliding helps the momentum of the ball and gives it extra power to really knock those pins down.
SS: Jerry Seinfeld’s method of “never missing a day” applies here. Working towards targets must be continuous and consistent.
Go all the way
Don't stop when your arm reaches the side of your body. Keep it going all the way forward and you'll be more precise and powerful.
SS: Pull out the stops to surprise and delight your customers by going the extra mile.
Feet on the floor
Extend the arm you don't bowl with to help keep your balance.
SS: Don’t let successfully reaching your target go to your head. Remind yourself of why you are in business, and use each success as a stepping stone to fulfil your grand purpose.
Paying attention?
Look straight ahead and keep those pins in your sight. Point your swing where you want your ball to go and you're on target for that strike!
SS: Avoid letting unimportant distractions avert your attention from the big picture.
